emily452:

At age 16 I am forced to make decisions about my future. At age 16 I can legally start my own family and raise them however I may wish. At age 16 I can go and serve for our country yet I have no say in how our country is run. At age 16 we pay adult bus fairs, we are expected to pay taxes if we have a full time job and at age 16 we have to make life changing decisions about our future. Why, at the age of 16 are we not treated like adults but instead we are treated like children. We have no say in how our country is run and we have no measure of political freedom. We are blamed for the issues in society but we have no means or way of working on our issues and changing them. We are disregarded politically and sometimes socially because we are “too young” and we don’t have enough “life experience”. Yes,not all 16 year olds are socially aware or even bothered about the way the world is run. Yes, we often make stupid mistakes and fall down every now and then. Yes we can be irrational. And yes, many of our generation are extremely angry . Why are we treated like children, expected to behave like adults but have none of the power that adults do?we are living in a society which calls us the hormone driven, the emotional, the selfie obsessed and the narcissistic generation who know nothing about what life was like “back in their day”. We are accountable for your mistakes. Give us the freedom to stop mistakes from happening and give us the respect that we are taught from a young age to give our elders. We are not aliens, we are not a different species and we at 16 are certainly not seen by the law as children. We are young adults and we deserve the ability to express that. Stop calling us children if we are living in a world of adults.
